Becoming an effective leader is something that must be developed. Good leaders don\u2019t fall from heaven; they are grown on earth.<\/p>\n<h4>So how do you develop effective leaders in a local church?<\/h4>\n<p>When faced with this question the response is usually directed to the qualities\/values of a good leader&#8230; or the process and competencies that are needed to produce an effective leader. Both aspects of leadership are important, but let\u2019s look for a moment at how to develop an Effective Leaders Workshop that concentrates on the process and competencies of leadership.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>The Process of Leadership<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: -0px;\">To develop this aspect you could use something like the <strong>Leadership Skill Builder Booklet<\/strong> to introduce leaders to a framework that provides consistency for both them and those they lead. It covers areas like:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list list8\">\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>L<\/strong>earning as much as possible about yourself and about others<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>E<\/strong>mpowering individuals and teams<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>A<\/strong>ssessing specific strategies and goals that you aim to achieve<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>D<\/strong>eciding what methods are appropriate to achieve the goals<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>E<\/strong>valuating overall behaviour, teamwork and outcomes<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\"><strong>R<\/strong>eviewing your own performance as a leader<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><em>Leadership Competencies<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: -0px;\">Leadership is composed of a number of different competencies, or puzzle pieces. If all these pieces are not in place the effectiveness of the leader will be limited. To develop this aspect you could use something like the <strong>Leadership Effectiveness Profile<\/strong>to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a leader in the following competencies:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list list0\">\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Emotional intelligence<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Contextual thinking<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Directional clarity<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Creative assimilation<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Change orchestration<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">People enablement<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Reciprocal communication<\/li>\n<li style=\"color: black; font-size: 15px;\">Driving persistence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>So where do you start\u2026<\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Start with yourself<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The greatest leadership myth is &#8216;I have arrived&#8217;. The landscape is always changing and leaders are always facing new problems and new possibilities, so never stop growing your leadership skills. Why not engage a coach who will be able to guide you in developing both the process and competencies of leadership. It may be the best investment you can make in yourself as a leader.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>Coach others<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers. The future will depend on how you develop more and better leaders. Remember, good leaders don&#8217;t fall from heaven; they are grown on earth.
